Keeping the Wolves Away

This week I had the occasion to have a dialogue with someone who believes that the entire New Testament is a fabrication designed to lead people away from “true faith”. If you are thinking that this was a pleasant conversation lace with God’s grace, you are gravely mistaken. The conversation quickly turned to a scathing indictment of modern Christianity and the gospel of “White Jesus”. Just to be clear, I have never referred to Jesus by any race or skin color. He is God. When He walked the earth He was God in human form who came to dwell among us to show the character of God. The bible says that He is the perfect image of the invisible God. How could anyone assign a race or skin color to God; who transcends everything in the universe.

Unfortunately this conversation ended in a deadlock. We both held tightly to our convictions. I held fast to the gospel of Christ. While he was adamantly opposed to this view. I feel a deep sadness for someone who holds to the view that Jesus is of no value to the human condition.

I believe God has placed a call upon my life to preach the gospel Of Jesus Christ and pastor the people of God. Part of this calling is to be a shepherd in the likeness of Christ who called Himself The Good Shepherd. As a shepherd I am to defend the sheep against the wolves that circle the camp and look for an opportunity to devour a wayward sheep. This is a call I take seriously because Jesus took on this role for His sheep to the point of death on the cross.

The Apostle Paul says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) 16  All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17  that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. All scripture is breathed out by God (it is of Divine origin). That means that scripture, like God, is infallible (never wrong), inerrant (without error), authoritative (not an authority but “THE” authority to live by), and sufficient for every aspect and area of life.

We see in Galatians 1:8-9 (NKJV) 8  But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9  As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. We are to be careful to preach and believe only the gospel of Christ and Him crucified. Any other “gospel” that claims to be the truth is a lie from the pit of hell. God’s Word is clear; there is only one gospel; the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ;m we must combat these lies and false gospels as we encounter them. We must stand firm in our convictions. We will stand before a Holy God one day we will give an account of our lives. Joshua said choose today which god you will serve, and like Joshua my resolve is “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!”
